Yesterday when I went out to buy some groceries from a chain pharmacy, I witnessed some sort of disciplining (if you can call it that) a mother had for her child's bed-wetting. The girl was probably around ten, and the mother gave her a bag of diapers and told her stand right in the middle of the store and raise it high so everyone knew she still wet the bed. Yeah, the girl didn't really need to do that because the mother's volume told everyone anyway.

The poor girl couldn't stop crying, but apparently, this was the woman's way of getting her to stop. Public humiliation. Needless to say, another customer picked a fight, said it wasn't the right thing to do to a child.

Do tell me I'm not wrong in having almost said "I hope your child does the same to you when you are so old you need adult diapers." Of course she did turn to me and ask my opinion, but all I could stammer out was that I had no children, then rang up my stuff, paid and walked out. Yeah, apparently, I just don't have enough in me to be that gutsy.

The general reaction to seeing your train on the platform as you reach the top of the stairs would, of course, be to run down immediately and try to make the doors. I would have also expected it to be common sense to dodge anyone who's in front of you, not shove her aside so she can fall some steps OFF the stairs while you continue running with just one goddamn look back.

Still, it's some sweet justice when the doors still close on your face. Not that he came over to apologize or anything Better luck next time, asshole buddy.

Nothing is broken. Thank God for that. Just twisted so if for the next some days, the elevator decides to stop working, then I'm going to scream.

My addiction to cracked.com taught me that ostriches do NOT bury their heads in sands and Newton wasn't exactly hit in the head with an apple.

Not that I really know 100% that this website could be right about those history facts proven wrong, but I always thought it was obvious that ostrich don't bury their heads in sand. How exactly would that hide it from predators? The meaty part of their bodies is still out to be eaten.

Anyway.. for this Halloween, I can't decide between Cleopatra or a tavern wench.

Most of June, it was raining and cold and now this one week in August, the heat is too overwhelming. Don't know about the rest of you but this has been a weird summer. Memorable one too. The dye in my hair after dressing like Rogue for a birthday party ended up being permanent instead of the costume dye you can easily wash off (thank you, my lovely younger cousin). I was hoping it would just grow out eventually, but I think I got tired of all the weird looks I was getting at work and I just dyed my hair again to my color.

Our garage is being rebuilt (we have insurance). Luckily, there wasn't too much damage inside. It's mostly junk in there anyway, and we were in our car in another part of the town at that time. I'm also extremely relieved that my house was intact and my mountain bike that was in the garage is okay. Hey, that's a large part of my life right there.

Not that I think it was done purposely, but I'm not sure how I feel about fourth of July fireworks after that incident.

In more comforting news: Mom and I are planning a trip to Australia for this Thanksgiving. A vacation that is much needed!

As if catching a cold isn't annoying enough, catching a cold in the summer is just awful. And remember the liquid medications that we (or maybe just some of us) basically ran away from when we were children? I had a theory that I might have acquired the taste for it after all these years. Kind of like high school and alcohol

Wrong. Robitussin will never ever taste good.

Don't make fun of my nasal voice tomorrow.

OMFG REALLY?! OUR GARAGE?!

Fireworks display that are far from the house, I don't mind. It's pretty to watch from the park or your window. Fireworks in the street that can potentially fly into someone's garage and light a spark, I really really don't like.

I am going to kill someone.

I don't really know if it was a good thing or bad thing that my mother and I weren't home to have our car blow up along with it.

After a full Thursday of nothing but pouring rain (which also broke my umbrella and forced me to walk in, drenched, into the office), it was awesome getting warm weather today. Okay, more like hot at some point, but I definitely prefer hot over rainy, unless it's a quick 2-minute downpour.

Can't wait for this month to be over, mostly because my brother is coming home for the fourth of July. And bringing his new girlfriend over who is hopefully not as much of a bitchy hoebag as the last one since I am cooking. Which feels somewhat weird because I wonder why I have to impress her with my cooking. Whatever though. I definitely don't mind being the one manning the grill. I'm thrilled to do it.

This is me, inviting you to Casa Alexander for that barbecue. Even if its just for a few minutes? But if you have other plans, it's totally fine, and I'll definitely save my key lime pie of awesome for you.

I decided on getting a cat from ASPCA (haven't gotten it YET though), after mulling it over since my last entry. Which was about... a month ago. Why, yes, that's how long I've been thinking about it.

No, not really. Distractions in the middle, like the retreat. Which was probably better this year than it was last year. Minus the showering issue, but at least I managed with someone's permission and help. Minus the flaming marshmellow on my leg too I've yet to upload the pictures, but when I do, they will be sent around to whoever's in them.

Random note: My brother just got me addicted to BSG.

It's May, and the April showers haven't ended yet. Today was absolutely gorgeous, but I'm not happy as I look at weather.com and see that we're having a thunderstorm tomorrow. Honestly, I only find joy in showers when they arrive on a sweltering hot summer day. And on those days, it only lasts for a couple of minutes and soon after you feel a cool breeze coming in through the window.

Yes, I am ready for summer now.

I want to adopt a pet from ASPCA but I'm conflicted between a cat and a dog. Love them both equally, but would rather start off with one right now. Help me decide.

Knowing, in my honest opinion, was a really bad choice. It was either that or Body of Lies, which I'm sure was probably terrific. So I went home and decided to catch up on House.

And spoilers will be under here )

So luckily, I hadn't caught anything drastic and contagious that'll get the whole building quarantined. Just in time because I would have hated to be sick for the basketball game. And for the upcoming retreat. Yeah, I'm probably the only person who actually looks forward to things like these, but I honestly had a lot of fun last time. I anticipate taking another heartfelt picture with Julian again. And with more people too.

I think I remember one time when I bragged that I hadn't caught the flu while everyone else was sick, or that I don't get sick easily, etc.

Unfortunately, it's a trade-off. Not vulnerable to flu but apparently vulnerable to weather. I've caught something since Friday evening that has been persistent all weekend. I'm not that bad enough to stay home but just to be safe, I'm confining myself in my cubicle. Ugh. April showers bring May flowers? Then we better have a lot of beautiful flowers.

This sucks a great deal especially when there's the practice next week which I do not want to skip out on. I promise I'll rest, drinks fluids and all that before then.

As for the more important news: A 6.3 earthquake in Italy and about 150 dead. I can't even begin to imagine the horror of that. Never had an experience with an earthquake, thank God, but my prayers are with the families there.

Coraline is a children's movie? Really? Because I thought it was the creepiest movie ever. My nineteen-year-old cousin wanted to see it. The better part was that we were in a completely empty hall so we had a pretty verbose commentary during the entire thing. I would have preferred seeing Watchmen but she's already made plans on seeing it with her boyfriend.

Clearly, this means whoever hasn't seen it yet should watch it with me. Yup.

In other news, Mental Floss mag informed me about 7 Historical (and Seriously Unhealthy) Beauty Practices. I don't what horrifies me more: #2 or #7

The news of the flu epidemic killing people is almost scary, but I'm pretty sure I have an up-to-par immune system. Still, it doesn't make the deaths any less worse. Two children dying from this... while I know that children and the elderly are most at risk for complications, it's just horrible what the families must be going through. Can relate in some way, though replace "flu" with "car ac

Glad I got my flu shot back in November.

I'm so behind on movies that I was writing up a lengthy list while watching the Oscars. The only movies I've seen recently are Taken and Defiance. Both were pretty decent movies. Good, but not "wow"-inducing. Slumdog Millionaire is at the top of the must-watch list. Speaking of which, that performance? That was beautiful. I've always wanted to wear a sari. There's no way I can come off as Indian though.

Speaking of which, words can't describe my disgust when I woke up this morning to my alarm clock on Z100, in time to hear them play a remixed version of "Jai Ho" with the Pussycat Dolls. Seriously?

Random thought for the day: if I should trade in my Dell laptop for a mac book. Or anything less than 14 inches. This thing is so bulky.

I haven't been updating this. I'm so sorry. I've been busy in a very empty home with, well.. if you hadn't seen us at the Christmas party My mother's coming back on Sunday. So apparently, the quiet house... will likely stay quiet because neither my mother nor I am usually at home except for after 10 pm.

Going to the party? Going to sleep over? We'll still have at least 40 hours before her plane lands.

Water in the boots is not a nice feeling. Nor is it nice to realize that these shoes that you bought and were hoping would keep your feet warm and dry do not living up to your expectations. My socks were drenched.

The sun may be shining today, but it really isn't helpful when the snow and water decided to become ICE today. Because, you know, I slipped right outside my door and hit my tail bone, which is why I'm limping and cringing

College classes apparently started. I know this through having to slam the breaks when a bunch of kids decided to rebel against the Don't Walk sign. I remember being that young, but I just can't remember thinking it was a good idea to run into ongoing traffic.

With all the hype that Slumdog Millionaire has gotten, I feel like I should watch this. I don't know when that is going to happen though. I just recently watched Eagle Eye. Interesting movie... a little predictable at some parts, but, well, there's no other word to describe it than "interesting".

Yeah, I'm a bit behind on movies, I'm slightly ashamed. I haven't seen Twilight but I really don't want to see that garbage

Mother dearest is taking a trip to Greece mid-February, that lucky woman. Not that there's really anything bad about a certain holiday that falls in that time frame. Though, yes, I do admit, I was the brat in high school that wanted to pop all the red heart balloons I could find in the school hallways. I just know she could use the break from all the hectic business at her pharmacy lately. January's not only part of the flu season but apparently a time for a bunch of insurance problems popping up on the screens.

And the day I decided to visit, she had a huge list of prescriptions that still needed to be filled while the line was very long at the drop-off section. And apparently, of the people standing there and waiting, the more quiet and polite ones were the mothers waiting for their sick children's antibiotics. The impatient and pushy ones were those waiting for their Viagra pills.

Yes, she definitely needs to get away for a bit. And I could definitely use the house all to myself. And by myself, I mean me and my boyfriend.

In another another week or so, it's going to be a year since I've started working at Spent. That's actually pretty impressive. Not that its a record or anything since I've worked at other places for longer. I think it's just amazing that I've managed to survive the sheer craziness of this place for that long. Honestly, I don't think I could ever find another workplace comparable to Spent.

New Year's was the usual drunkenness with friends and family. With the exception of dating someone this time Nothing too exciting. I have no New Year resolutions though. I couldn't really come up with a creative one.
